Siaya County is set to tackle its waste management woes with the construction of incinerators in all modern markets, according to Trade Chief Officer Chris Owang.
Published on January 3, 2020, Owang explained that the markets generate a significant amount of waste, and the incinerators will improve the collection unit by providing a designated burning point for traders.
The incinerators will be designed to contain the final ash, preventing it from seeping into the environment and nearby water bodies.
"We are copying our health facilities that have incinerators. We want to ensure that constant complaints of poor waste management is a thing of the past," Owang said.
The county government has allocated funds in the next budget to aid the construction of the facilities in Ugenya and Rarieda, with all six markets set to have incinerators.
