On December 28, 2020, Charles Ndegwa, a boda boda rider and chairman of the group, was allegedly tricked into handing over Sh100,000 to Jane Wangui, who promised to secure him a visit to Deputy President William Ruto's home in Karen.

Wangui, who appeared before Nyeri Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo, denied the charges and was released on a Sh500,000 bond with a similar surety.

According to Nyeri Central Sub-county police commander Paul Kuria, the boda boda riders each contributed Sh1,000 to Ndegwa, who was told they would receive branded T-shirts and hats before the visit to Ruto's home.

Four people linked to the team that received money from over 100 motorcycle riders have also been arrested, with Kuria stating that they are investigating the matter to determine those behind the scam.

The matter will be mentioned on January 13, 2020.
