On Thursday afternoon, a tragic incident unfolded in Nyongoro area, Lamu, where three innocent people and four terrorists lost their lives in a bus attack.
According to a statement by John Wabuke, Officer Commanding Station in Witu, the militants, who were five in number, stopped three buses, including a TSS bus and a Simba Coach bus headed to Lamu from Mombasa.
On the TSS bus, the militants ordered all 51 passengers out and asked them to recite Shahada, a Muslim prayer, before shooting two passengers, as per the statement.
Several other passengers were injured in the attack and taken to various hospitals in Lamu County.
Only the conductor, Mahamed Mane, was shot dead by the militants, while the driver had realized that the group was not made of police officers but suspicious individuals.
Another bus, belonging to Mombasa Raha company, had 47 passengers, but the driver, Raymond Juma, managed to drive on after being flagged to stop.
The militants then started shooting the tyres of the bus, deflating them, and the driver managed to drive for 500 meters before it stalled.
Security agencies later pursued the attackers, killing four and arresting one.
