On January 3, 2020, a Greenline Services bus caught fire on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway in Gilgil, leaving over 50 passengers shaken but alive.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus had a tyre burst when it arrived in Gilgil town, and the driver parked it by the roadside to change the tyre. However, smoke started emanating from the engine, and a fire erupted, completely burning the passengers' luggage.

Edna Nafula, a passenger, recounted the terrifying experience, saying, "The driver parked the bus by the roadside to change the tyre but there was smoke from the engine and in minutes a fire erupted completely burning our luggage."

Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident, but the majority of the passengers lost all their luggage to the fire. Gilgil OCPD Emmanuel Opuru confirmed the incident, attributing it to a mechanical problem.
