Published on January 3, 2020, a court in Nakuru handed two burglars a two-year prison sentence for stealing maize grain.

On December 29, 2019, Alex Kemboi and Jose Loreng broke into the stall of Margret Muithereo and stole two sacks of maize worth Sh5,000. They also broke into the house of Musa Muyiya and stole a bag containing a pair of trousers and a vest worth Sh1,050.

The maize trail led the store owner directly to the home of the two suspects, where the stolen bags were found.

Chief Magistrate Bernard Mararo convicted the two on their own plea and sentenced them to serve two years in prison, with the sentence running concurrently.

"I have listened to your mitigation but a deterrent sentence should be given. Both accused are sentenced to two years in prison. However, sentence will run concurrently," ruled the magistrate.
