Athletics Kenya (AK) president Jackson Tuwei has announced that the federation has set up 14 camps across the country to nurture talent ahead of the World Under-20 Championships in Nairobi.
The championships, scheduled to take place at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani from July 7 to 12, will see Kenya defend its title after winning a total of 11 medals in the 2018 edition in Tampere, Finland.
Tuwei said that the camps will help identify and recruit a team that will represent Kenya in the games, adding that the team will be touring schools where the athletes are training to monitor their preparations.
"We are confident that the team that will be selected for the games will retain the title and that is why we are working hard now to have the best athletes identified across the country," said Tuwei.
Kenya has so far won a total of 186 medals (78 gold, 66 silver and 42 bronze) since the inception of the games in 1986.
Tuwei also praised the Local Organizing Committee for their efforts in preparing a world-class event, saying that the Ministry of Sports had named the LOC team early and allocated a budget to them.
