Published on January 3, 2020, Gor Mahia's financial struggles have led to a decision to reduce their roster to a manageable 25 players, down from 32 registered for the 2019/2020 season.

Club Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lodvick Aduda revealed that a meeting with the technical bench has been convened to identify and offload 'excess baggage' in the team.

"We want to change the structure of the team and have to start by reducing the wage bill to a number that we can maintain before working on other areas that will make the team easier to manage," Aduda said.

According to Aduda, the team will part ways with seven players during the January mid-transfer period, with the technical bench recommending the move.

He hinted that there will be some additions in the team to strengthen weak areas, with players identified for recruitment during the January mid-transfer window.

However, Aduda emphasized that new additions will only be possible after offloading players who are not productive in the team.

He also revealed that Gor Mahia is looking to change its structure in line with modern day football management, promising to give details once everything has been finalized in a fortnight.

"Gor Mahia is no doubt one of the biggest clubs in Africa if history is anything to go by and should therefore be run in a professional way, thus the decision to change the team's structure," Aduda said.

Aduda confirmed that they are chasing the signatures of three Bandari players, but declined to name them until they put pen to paper.
