Published on January 3, 2020, Airbus has claimed the top spot in plane deliveries for 2019, achieving a record delivery of 863 aircraft.
This marks a significant shift in the industry, as Boeing had held the top spot since 2012.
The grounding of Boeing's 737 Max planes in March 2019, following two fatal crashes, is attributed to the change in rankings.
As of now, no airline has lifted the ban on the 737 Max, and Boeing has announced plans to halt production of the aircraft this year.
According to Reuters, Airbus deliveries rose by 7.9% in 2019, from 800 in 2018, while Boeing's deliveries dropped to 345, down from 806 in 2018.
Analysts suggest that Airbus's profit margins may be affected by the costs incurred in fitting the complex new layouts on A321neo jets.
The A321neo is a variant of the A320 short- and medium-haul passenger aircraft, equipped with modern engines and airframe improvements, offering fuel savings of up to 15%.
