On January 3, 2020, a dramatic scene unfolded in Nairobi when a 31-year-old man, Aggrey Karigi, allegedly claimed to be a Kenya Defence Forces officer to avoid paying a bodaboda rider.
According to reports, Karigi had hired the rider, Peter Onyango Osula, to take him from Umoja to Huruma for Sh300. However, upon arrival, he refused to pay, claiming that he was a KDF officer and therefore untouchable.
Osula, however, was not convinced and a crowd began to gather, intent on lynching Karigi. Fortunately, police officers arrived just in time to rescue him and disperse the crowd.
During interrogation at Huruma police station, Karigi failed to produce any documentation to prove his claim of being a military officer attached to the Kenya Air Force Moi Airbase in Eastleigh.
On January 16, 2020, Karigi's case will be mentioned in court, where the facts of the case will be read out to him.
