On December 27, 2019, the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji issued a gazette notice revoking the appointment of over 300 prosecutors seconded to 14 state agencies.
Among the affected agencies were Labour institutions, environmental management, citizenship and immigration agencies, and several others, with the Labour institutions losing the most prosecutors at 90.
The revocation was due to the prosecutors lacking proper legal training and qualifications, with some not even being lawyers.
According to the DPP, the prosecutors were unable to keep up with developments in law, prosecution policies, and guidelines.
Those affected have been invited to reapply for the positions, adhering to new requirements including qualifications and a mandatory training program.
