January 2, 2020, marked the beginning of a heated exchange between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Kandara MP Alice Wahome. In a scathing attack, Wahome described Uhuru and Raila Odinga as power-hungry mercenaries who want to cling on power after the 2022 elections.

According to Wahome, Uhuru is eying the Prime Minister's post in the 2022 elections and is using David Murathe, Beth Mugo, and Francis Atwoli to send out a message. She claimed that the two leaders are using the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) as a Special Purpose Vehicle to deliver their goals in 2022.

Wahome accused Raila of being Uhuru's new political mercenary for hire, and the BBI report as the special purpose vehicle heading to the route suggested by Murathe, Atwoli, and Beth Mugo. She dared Uhuru to respond to some of the issues raised by the three politicians.

Alice Wahome is a vocal member of Jubilee's Tanga Tanga faction, which pays deep allegiance to Deputy President William Ruto. Her statement has sparked a debate on social media, with some questioning her loyalty to her master.
