As the world marks the beginning of a new year, the Kenyan government has emphasized the need to prioritize affordable healthcare, a crucial aspect of the 'Big Four Agenda'.

Universal health coverage (UHC) is a key pillar of this agenda, alongside food security, affordable housing, and manufacturing. The success of UHC will depend on support from donors, including the World Bank, and the role of counties in delivering healthcare services.

According to Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki, UHC means that all Kenyans can access quality health services without suffering financial hardships. President Kenyatta has assured that the rollout of the programme is on course and will be completed as promised.

The government is also working with the private sector to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 on good health and well-being. Initiatives such as telemedicine and the use of drones to deliver medical supplies are being implemented to increase access to affordable healthcare in remote areas.
