On January 1, 2020, Agnes Mucuha began her tenure as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA), succeeding Nicanor Sabula who had resigned from the position.

Ms Mucuha, a seasoned executive with a strong background in the hospitality and aviation industry, has worked at prominent establishments such as Sarova Panafric Hotel, Fairmont Hotels and Resort, and Qatar Airways.

According to KATA chairman Mohammed Wanyoike, Ms Mucuha's appointment took effect on January 1 and is open-ended.

Ms Mucuha holds a Bachelor's degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the USIU-Africa and a Master's degree in Strategic Management from the University of Nairobi.

Mr Sabula, who had been at the helm of KATA since 2015, is credited with transforming the association into a vibrant organization in the travel and tourism industry.

Under his leadership, KATA revamped its membership services and professionalized its secretariat, significantly strengthening the organization.

Mr Wanyoike praised Mr Sabula's vision, drive, and focus on results, stating that 'His vision, drive and focus on results has materially strengthened KATA.'
