Kenyan middle-distance runner Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon is optimistic about defending her Olympic title at the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo, Japan, where she may face off with double world champion Sifan Hassan.
At the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar, Kipyegon settled for silver after clashing with Hassan, who was in top form at the time.
"Yes, we are in an Olympic season and that is my main goal this year. I have already resumed my build up exercises to make sure that I make the team because everyone is also eyeing the tickets to Tokyo," Kipyegon said.
After the World Championships, Kipyegon shifted her training base from Keringet in Nakuru County to the famous Global Sports Communication camp in Kaptagat, where she trains alongside world-class athletes like Eliud Kipchoge and Geoffrey Kamworor.
"I am honored to train at Kaptagat with the likes of Kipchoge, Kamworor, and Kiyeng. I also thank my coach Patrick Sang for the guidance he has offered me since I joined the camp," Kipyegon said.
