On December 31, 2019, a group of boda boda riders in Nyeri were promised a chance to meet Deputy President William Ruto, but it turned out to be a scam.

According to reports, the riders were asked to pay KSh 100 each to cover their transport costs from Nyeri to Ruto's home in Karen, as well as to print shirts and T-shirts for the occasion.

However, when the riders pressed for more information, the suspect, Jane Wangoi, disappeared, and only sent some unknown people to deliver the shirts and T-shirts, in an attempt to keep the riders' hopes alive.

But the riders were not fooled, and they reported the matter to the police, who arrested Wangoi on January 1, 2020.

Wangoi was arraigned in court on January 2, 2020, where she denied the charges and was granted a KSh 500, 000 bond.

The case will be mentioned on January 13, 2020.
