Magufuli Vows to Tackle Public Fund Looters in 2020

On January 2, 2020, Tanzanian President John Magufuli reaffirmed his commitment to combating public fund looting, stating that the nation had been robbed of its resources by a few greedy individuals.

According to the Directorate of Presidential Communication, Magufuli made this pledge in his New Year message to the nation, emphasizing the need to continue dealing with those responsible for looting public funds.

"This country was being robbed of its resources by a handful of greedy individuals. And they are still robbing this country. I will continue dealing with them head on," Magufuli said during a trip to Rubondo Island National Park on Lake Victoria.

Magufuli also highlighted the positive impact of recovered funds, which he stated had been used to construct a standard gauge railway and offer free education.

Meanwhile, Zanzibar President Ali Mohamed Shein praised Tanzanians for cherishing unity and peace throughout 2019, crediting this unity for enabling the implementation of development projects in a conducive environment.
