On January 2, 2020, a Lamu-bound bus was hijacked by suspected Al-Shabaab militants at Nyongoro area in Lamu County, Kenya.
The bus, belonging to Mombasa Raha Company, was traveling from Mombasa when the attack occurred.
According to reports, heavy gunfire was heard during the attack, and some passengers managed to escape to the nearby bush, requiring urgent help.
Lamu County Commissioner Irungu Macharia confirmed the incident and stated that he was headed to the scene to assess the situation.
It is worth noting that this incident occurred just days after Al-Shabaab terrorists ambushed a Mandera-bound bus in Kutulo area, Wajir County, resulting in the deaths of 11 people, including 8 police officers, on December 6, 2019.
