Published on January 2, 2020, former Jubilee Party Vice Chairman David Murathe has revealed that Kenyans have shown immense support for President Uhuru Kenyatta, indicating that they still need him beyond 2022.
Murathe, a close ally to the President, stated that Kenyatta would remain the de facto party leader of Jubilee, which would aid him in clinching the new role stipulated in the Building Bridges Initiative.
According to Murathe, new political alignments may come into shape, and the nation may witness a scenario where the leader of the majority party in Parliament forms a government, in coalition with other parties, ensuring that Kenyatta remains relevant and in active politics after 2022.
“The country has shown immense support and need for the President and the good work he is doing, wananchi still want him running the country,” Murathe said.
He further argued that nothing stops the President, as the leader of Jubilee, from heading the government as the Executive Prime Minister as long as the party remains the largest in Kenya.
However, this raises questions on his deputy’s presidential ambitions, as his allies expect him to head the party in 2022 in the State House race.
“Why is the clamor of elections coming from them? Let them know and understand that Kenyatta will remain the party leader come rain or shine, and if they have plans to contest that, let them bring it on. The earlier, the better,” Murathe poked holes at Ruto’s allies.
