On December 31, 2019, Hector Mkansi and his fiancée Nonhlanhla Soldaat, a South African couple who captured the hearts of many with their proposal at a Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) joint, exchanged their vows in a luxurious dreamy wedding.

The couple's wedding was made possible by well-wishers and brands across South Africa, including celebrities like Mafikizolo, who entertained their guests at the reception.

"We are still in disbelief, both of us have to ask each other if this is really happening from time to time. We couldn't be more grateful to God and every single person that has shared in our little love story," Mkansi said in an interview with CNN.

After their proposal went viral, the couple received widespread criticism, with some online users mocking Mkansi for proposing at a KFC. However, the couple's fortunes changed when KFC came to their rescue, asking the public to help identify them so they could give the couple their dream KFC wedding.

Companies like Audi, Lexus, and airlines soon followed suit, offering the couple their services. Standard Bank SA even promised to offset both their loans, writing, "We didn’t want to steal the happy couple’s shine but since some of you have asked, we’d like to offer them a clean slate. Over & above imvula mlomo, we’ll clear their personal loans up to R300k & if they’re with us we’ll clear it all! No need for skoloto!"

Well-wishers also chipped in, offering spa appointments and other gifts.
