On January 1, 2020, at midnight, President John Pombe Magufuli called Diamond Platnumz live on stage while he was performing in Kigoma, his home province.
According to Diamond, President Magufuli wished him and the people of Kigoma a prosperous year, saying, 'Mimi nakupenda sana na napenda watu wa Kigoma. Ninawatakia heri ya mwaka mpya na Mungu awabariki sana' (I love you as well as Kigoma people. I wish you a prosperous year and God bless you).
Diamond Platnumz shared the audio of the phone call on Instagram, praising President Magufuli for supporting Tanzanian youth.
He also expressed his gratitude and admiration for the President's leadership, saying, 'Ni adimu sana Kumpata Rais ambae anaweza jali wananchi wake, akawajali vijana, tena hususan kujali Wanasanaa…Rais ambe licha ya Wingi wa majukumu Mazito aliyonayo lakini akatenga Muda kutazama Onyesho lako' (It's a rare thing to find a President who cares for his people, supports youth, and especially artists…A President who, despite his heavy responsibilities, took time to watch my show).
