On the first day of the year, 2020, a tragic incident unfolded at Full Gospel Church in Kibomet, Trans Nzoia county, leaving congregants in shock.
At 5am on January 1, 2020, believers gathered for early morning prayers, only to discover the lifeless body of 44-year-old William Kariuki.
Initially, the congregation thought Kariuki was asleep, but after several attempts to wake him failed, they realized he was deceased.
‘We tried severally to awaken him but he did not respond. It is then that we decided to inform the police,’ said a congregant who was present at the scene.
Confirming the incident, Kwanza OCPD Alphonse Kimanzi stated that Kariuki had attended the church on December 31, 2020, for New Year's Eve celebrations.
‘We were alerted at around 5:30am that a man had been found dead inside a church. We suspect he might have been left behind sleeping. Our preliminary investigations indicate he was intoxicated,’ said Kimanzi.
Police have launched investigations to determine the cause of Kariuki's death, and a postmortem will be conducted to establish the facts.
