On January 2, 2020, a 44-year-old man was found dead inside the Full Gospel Church in Kibomet, Trans-Nzoia County.
Worshippers who had arrived for morning prayers initially thought the man, later identified as William Kariuki, was sleeping.
However, when they tried to wake him up, he was unresponsive, prompting them to call the police.
According to Kwanza Sub-county Police Commander Alphonse Kimanzi, Kariuki had attended the New Year's Eve celebrations at the church on Tuesday.
Police suspect that Kariuki may have fallen asleep during the service and was left behind by the congregation.
‘We suspect he might have fallen asleep in the process and was left behind. Our preliminary investigations indicate he was intoxicated,’ Kimanzi said.
Investigations have been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding Kariuki's death, and a postmortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death.
