On Tuesday, Kilifi North Sub County Police Commander Njoroge Ngigi announced the arrest of an impostor suspected to be part of a criminal gang terrorizing residents in Kilifi. The arrest occurred between Sunday and Monday night.
The suspect was found wearing a uniform belonging to prison police officers, which sparked the investigation. Mr. Ngigi confirmed that the suspect was detained to assist in the ongoing investigations.
According to the Sub-County Commander, the suspect was with accomplices who managed to escape. He assured that the police are following up on them and will apprehend them to dismantle the criminal gang.
The gang, consisting of six members, targets innocent members of the public, often using a car parked at a designated location. The suspect revealed in a video that he would approach the victims and say 'habari yako kijana' before his colleagues would harass them and take money.
It is worth noting that a similar incident occurred last year in July, where an armed man suspected to be part of the gang was gunned down at a petrol station in Msifuni trading Center in the outskirts of Kilifi town.
