On a day of thrilling horse racing, Clan Des Obeaux proved to be the standout performer, dominating the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase at Kempton Park on December 26, 2019.
Trainer Paul Nicholls, who had just received honors from the Queen, had high hopes for his prime contender Cyrname, but it was not to be. Cyrname, ridden by Harry Cobden, failed to impress, finishing a distant second to Clan Des Obeaux.
Clan Des Obeaux, ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies, was in a league of its own, crossing the finish line with a 21-length margin. The win marked a significant achievement for trainer Paul Nicholls, who now has eleven King George's to his name.
Meanwhile, Lostintranslation, another top contender, failed to deliver, pulling up after displaying lackluster traits. Trainer Colin Tizzard attributed the horse's poor performance to breathing difficulties and a dislike for softer conditions.
Only five runners were declared for the event, which was initially expected to feature fifteen horses. Clan Des Obeaux's impressive win has sparked talk of the horse potentially matching Kauto Star's tally, a feat that would be a remarkable achievement.
