On December 29, 2019, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro reiterated his unwavering support for Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential ambitions, defying President Uhuru Kenyatta's warning against early campaigns.
As a leading figure in the Tangatanga faction of the ruling Jubilee Party, Nyoro has been a vocal critic of President Kenyatta's leadership, particularly in Mt Kenya region.
His defiance of the President's advice is not new, as he was arrested in September 2019 for causing chaos at a fundraiser at Gaitu Catholic Church in Murang'a County.
According to Nyoro, his relationship with Ruto began when he sought Ruto's assistance in getting a top seat in one of the committees in the National Assembly, as he was unable to reach President Kenyatta through his handlers.
'I sent him a message introducing myself, and he called me immediately,' Nyoro said.
Nyoro refuted claims that he follows Ruto for financial gain, disclosing that he made his money during former President Mwai Kibaki's administration.
'I bought my house in 2011, and I ran my politics when I did not know Dr Ruto. In fact, I spent more following him,' he said.
As an astute entrepreneur, Nyoro has invested in stock brokerage, firms he says are still running.
He also criticized Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, describing his political ideologies as 'backward' and stating that he has never subscribed to them.
