On December 29, 2019, the nation lost a dedicated public servant when National Cohesion and Integration Commission Vice-Chair Fatuma Tabwara passed away.

Tabwara, who was part of the new NCIC commissioners sworn in by Chief Justice David Maraga in November, collapsed during a wedding ceremony at Bowa village in Matuga, Kwale County.

Despite being rushed to Diani Beach Hospital, Tabwara was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Tabwara's contributions to the county government of Kwale were numerous, including serving as a political and policy advisor to the Governor, and participating in the formation of the sexual harassment policy.

She also held various leadership roles, including being a member of the County Public Service Board and the selection panel of the Chairperson of the County Public Service Board.
