December 29, 2019, marked a day of controversy for Canada's national broadcaster CBC, as they defended deleting a scene featuring Donald Trump from the film Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
The edited film was shown by CBC earlier this month, prompting criticism from Mr Trump's supporters, who felt that the edit was an attempt to erase the President's presence in the film.
According to CBC spokesman Chuck Thompson, eight minutes of the 120-minute film had been trimmed to make way for adverts, with the edits made in 2014, before Mr Trump was elected.
Mr. Thompson emphasized that the edits were not politically motivated, but rather a routine trimming of the film to fit the broadcast schedule.
However, the move has sparked a heated debate, with Donald Trump Jr. tweeting a link to a story that called the edit 'pathetic.'
President Trump himself reacted late on Thursday, tweeting that 'the movie will never be the same! (just kidding)' and making a quip about Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
