On December 29, 2019, a city lawyer and legal analyst, Steve Ogolla, revealed how he was conned of Ksh 500,000 by his online lover.
Ogolla, a romantic at heart, had been lonely and decided to look for love online. He reached out to a woman known as Dorkas Sarkozy on Facebook and thought he had met the love of his life.
The whirlwind online romance between Ogolla and Dorkas was conducted on WhatsApp, with their conversation switching between declarations of love, sex talk, and requests for gifts and money.
As their relationship progressed, Ogolla became suspicious when Dorkas hesitated to meet him and requested them to keep their relationship private.
He even composed a powerful poem for her, which he published on Facebook, but Dorkas ordered him to pull it down.
After conning Ogolla of not less than Ksh 500,000 in cash, excluding gifts, Dorkas cut off contact and disappeared from the internet.
Ogolla narrated his ordeal after former Raila Odinga personal Assistant, Silas Jakakimba, took it to his Facebook wall to ask if anyone knew Dorkas Sarkozy.
