This archive report was first published on 29 December 2019.

Anthony Akumu, a 27-year-old midfielder, has been a key player for Zesco United in Zambia, despite missing out on Harambee Stars' 2019 Africa Cup of Nations squad.

With his contract at the Ndola-based club set to expire after four successful years, Akumu is now free to talk to other clubs and leave on a free transfer.

According to reports, Kaizer Chiefs are eyeing Akumu to strengthen their midfield and potentially replace Ghanaian James Kotei, who has struggled to adapt to the team.

Akumu has previously been linked with Chiefs after scoring twice against them in a Caf Confederation Cup game in January, and has also been linked with Simba and Congolese club TP Mazembe.
