December 29, 2019, Nairobi - With the rise of smartphone ownership, protecting the screen from cracks has become a top priority for many. However, a growing trend in Nairobi has raised concerns about the authenticity of certain screen protectors being sold on the streets.

These screen protectors claim to be coated with Nano Liquid (Silicon Dioxide (SiO2)) that makes them unbreakable. However, experts warn that this is nothing more than a hoax.

So, how does SiO2 work? When applied to a smartphone screen, the SiO2 dries and becomes liquid glass, providing oleophobic coating, anti-bacterial properties, and a tiny layer of glass that adds a little more impact protection. The Nano liquid can be used on any surface.

While the liquid screen protectors are approximately 100 nanometers thick and won't add noticeable thickness to your device, they only add scratch resistance by adding another layer of glass on top of the screen. This layer is still just glass, and you're permanently adding another layer to your phone.

Many Nano Liquids boast of 9H hardness, which may sound impressive, but it's nothing special when compared to tempered glass screen protectors, which also have 9H hardness. The average tempered glass screen protector can still break, so having the liquid screen protector as 9H is not a significant advantage.

Furthermore, it's not entirely proven that the Nano liquid used in Nairobi is pure Silicone Dioxide, which may explain the malfunctions. To avoid any potential risks, it's best to stick with tempered removable screen protectors.
