Koigi Wants Uhuru and Raila Families to Face Scrutiny Over Their Wealth ¶
Former Subukia MP Koigi wa Wamwere has called for the families of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga to be investigated over their wealth.
According to Koigi, the two families are among the richest in the country, and it is high time Kenyans know how they acquired their wealth.
Speaking in an interview with Sauti ya Mwananchi Radio on December 28, Koigi said, "I have seen among the top 10 richest people in the country, Uhuru's family is number two and Odinga's family is number five. Now, it is time for Kenyans to know how these families acquired their wealth."
He added, "If not, they will not believe that this wealth was acquired legally."
Koigi's call comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta had promised to launch an investigation into the wealth of public officials, including himself, in June 2018.
However, the promise was never fulfilled, and the President has never spoken about it again.
On December 27, Raila Odinga, the ODM leader, also spoke about the issue of wealth among politicians, saying, "We have a situation where people are walking around with bags full of money every Sunday looking for harambee to donate to."
He added, "This person is employed by the government, and we know his salary. Where is this donation money coming from? But if this wealth is investigated, we will know."
It is worth noting that the President's promise to launch an investigation into the wealth of public officials was part of his anti-corruption efforts.
