On December 28, 2019, a violent attack unfolded at a Hasidic Rabbi's house in Monsey, New York, a predominantly Jewish area, during a Hanukkah celebration.

A man wielding a machete stormed the property, stabbing at least three people before fleeing the scene.

According to the Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council (OJPAC), five patients with stab wounds, all of whom were Hasidic, were transported to local hospitals.

Two of the victims were reportedly in critical condition, OJPAC added.

Yossi Gestetner, a co-founder of the OJPAC for the Hudson Valley region, revealed that one of the victims was a son of the rabbi.

"The house had many dozens of people in there," Gestetner said. "It was a Hanukkah celebration."

Monsey, New York, has been the site of a recent surge in anti-Semitic attacks, with Saturday's stabbing following a shooting earlier this month at a kosher deli in a New York suburb.

That attack, which occurred on December 10, 2019, resulted in the deaths of six people, including the two suspects.
