Published on December 29, 2019, Meru County is set to develop new tourism sites to attract more tourists. The county's administration, led by Governor Kiraitu Murungi, has identified four sites in the municipality that are surrounded by the Imenti forest, home to elephants, waterfalls, and other attractions.

According to County Trade, Tourism and Cooperative Development Executive Mugambi Maingi, Meru town has become a preferred destination for conferences due to the increasing number of hotels. The county aims to create a nature trail corridor from the famous King Muuru oak tree, which is approximately 400 years old and considered the largest in Imenti forest.

The corridor will lead to the Nkunga Sacred lake, where a facility will be created for visitors and residents to relax next to the lake, which is home to plenty of trout fish. The county plans to partner with an investor to establish a picnic site near the lake, where people can enjoy meals and drinks.

Another recreational site will be developed next to Nchiru, which hosts an 'elephant maternity' and the Njuri Ncheke elders' shrine.
