West Ham United's poor form has left the club just a point above relegation, prompting the dismissal of manager Manuel Pellegrini, 18 months after his arrival.
Published on December 29, 2019, the decision to sack Pellegrini comes after a string of disappointing results, including a 4-0 defeat to Oxford United in the EFL Cup in September.
Despite a promising start to the season, West Ham has suffered nine league losses, securing just two wins in 13 matches.
The club's 2-1 home defeat to Leicester City on December 28 was the final straw, leaving the hierarchy with no choice but to hand Pellegrini his marching orders.
West Ham chairman David Sullivan expressed his disappointment at the decision, stating, "It is with great disappointment that we've had to make the decision. Manuel is a gentleman and it has been a real pleasure to work with someone of his calibre."
However, Sullivan continued, "However, it has become clear that a change is required to get the club back on track in line with our ambitions this season."
West Ham currently sits 17th in the league standings with 19 points, perilously close to the drop zone.
David Moyes, who previously managed the club from November 2017 to May 2018, is reportedly in line to replace Pellegrini on an 18-month deal.
