On Friday, December 27, 2019, a police constable was arrested in Mombasa in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a Safaricom employee in Malindi.

The victim, a Safaricom employee, was allegedly abducted by the GSU officer and the police constable in a suspected loan recovery mission.

According to the police, the suspects claimed the victim had taken a Sh500,000 loan from one of her abductors but failed to repay the money as agreed.

DCI officers from Malindi and Mombasa trailed the abductors following a tip-off and the suspects, sensing they were being trailed, drove themselves to Central police station in Mombasa where they were arrested.

“We have three suspects in custody, including an officer. This is a serious crime,’’ said Mombasa DCI boss Anthony Muriithi.

The suspects will be arraigned in court on Monday, and the car they were driving in was also detained.
