On December 27, 2019, a dramatic turn of events unfolded in Mombasa as police constable and another suspect were arrested for allegedly abducting a Safaricom employee in Malindi.

The incident began when the GSU officer, based at a camp in Baringo County, allegedly abducted the Safaricom employee in a suspected loan recovery mission.

According to the police, the suspects claimed the victim had taken a Ksh. 500,000 loan from one of her abductors but failed to repay the money as agreed.

However, the police have disputed this claim, stating that the suspects opted to avoid confrontation with police officers and drove into the Central police station in Mombasa where they were arrested.

DCI boss Anthony Muriithi confirmed that the suspects are being held at Central Police Station pending investigations and will be arraigned in court on Monday.
