On Saturday, Nairobi police made a significant breakthrough in the fight against phone theft, recovering 151 stolen smartphones in a raid on phone repair shops in the city centre.
The operation, carried out by officers from Kamukunji police station, targeted several shops in the area where the phones were confiscated.
According to police, the recovered phones are believed to have been stolen or robbed from owners in the city in recent months.
“Anyone who has lost their phone in the recent past should make a point of visiting Kamukunji police station and find out whether their phones are part of those that were recovered,” said Mr Philip Ndolo, the Nairobi police boss.
This is not the first time police in Nairobi have recovered stolen phones. In October, they recovered more than 260 mobile phones stolen in armed robberies and muggings in the CBD and Kayole estate.
