On December 28, 2019, the Athletics Kenya Cross Country Championships Series reached its fourth leg at Kapsokwony in Bungoma County, where Qualine Kiprop and Kenneth Kiprop showcased their prowess.
Qualine, the African Games 1,500m champion, won the senior women's 10km race in 36:28.2, leaving behind Josephine Jelagat and Jackline Adudonyang in second and third place, respectively.
Qualine attributed her success to her good preparations at her training base in Torongo, Baringo County, and expressed her focus on the remaining part of the competition, aiming to represent her country in the Africa Cross Country Championships in Lome, Togo next year.
"The Cross Country race is a good build-up for my favourite race (1,500m) where I will be eyeing a slot in Team Kenya that will be heading to Tokyo, Japan for the Olympics Games," Qualine said.
Meanwhile, Kenneth Kiprop, the Endebess 10km winner, took the senior men's 10km title in 31 minutes and 26 seconds, with Simon Letaya and Kennedy Kipyego finishing second and third, respectively.
"It was a tight race but I'm happy because I had prepared well and that's why I bagged victory after running tactically," Kenneth Kiprop said.
