As we usher in a new decade, it's hard not to reflect on the past year's events. The world was gripped by uncertainty, and yet, we found ways to manufacture hope. But what does the future hold? In this article, I'll delve into the concept of time, its linear and cyclical nature, and the choices we make in shaping our future.

According to the 'development' narrative, time is linear and ever-moving forward, with progress being inevitable. This is how we've chosen to organize our world as we draw closer to each other via globalization. Technology has helped with this, providing the 'certainty' of constant improvement and prosperity.

However, there's an alternative view of time, one that's pre-modern and pagan at heart. It's cyclical, embracing the recurrence of events, the elision of past, present, and future, people and nature, and the divine. In this sphere, the concept of 'dominion over all things' is anathema, seen as hostile to life, love, nature, and thriving.

As we stand at the threshold of a new era, we're faced with choices. Will we prioritize the accumulation of wealth and so-called achievement over sacrifices for love and community? Will we stand with or against tyranny? The answers to these questions will shape the future we want to create.

As I bid farewell to 2019 and welcome 2020, I'm reminded that time waits for no one. Let's make the most of this new decade and continue the conversation about the choices we make in shaping our world.

It's an honour and a pleasure to write for and with you. Come on, 2020, we're ready.
