On Friday night, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested a GSU officer in Mombasa in connection with the kidnap of a Safaricom employee in Malindi.
The victim had taken a Ksh. 500,000 loan from one of her abductors, Ms. Grace Wairimu, but failed to meet the agreed repayment deadline, according to the DCI.
The GSU officer allegedly colluded with two civilians, including Mr. Omar Mwanguze, to force the victim into a private car and drive off from Malindi.
DCI detectives pursued the suspects in a Nissan March vehicle and cornered them, forcing them to drive to the Central Police Station in Mombasa.
The victim was rescued, and the three suspects are in custody as further investigations continue.
This incident comes on the heels of a similar case in May, where a former Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) officer and a female suspect were arrested over the kidnap of a 4-year-old girl in Utawala, Nairobi.
Additionally, in 2016, five police officers and a civilian were arrested for allegedly kidnapping a Chinese national and demanding a Ksh. 1 million ransom for his release.
