After drifting for seven hours, the fishermen were spotted on Christmas Day, treading water in the harsh deep-sea environment.
According to Yunnus Aboud, Chairman of the Fishermen Association of Malindi, the eight survivors had managed to catch 58 kilograms of lobster and fish on the day of the accident, which sustained them for 18 days.
The fishermen were rescued by marine police on patrol and are currently receiving treatment at Malindi sub-county hospital.
Malindi Sub County Police Commander Vitalis Otieno explained that the boat was taken to the deep waters and capsized due to strong winds.
