On December 28, 2019, the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) launched a crackdown on unsafe vehicles along the Mombasa-Malindi Highway, resulting in the arrest of at least 30 drivers.
According to Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Anthony Kamitu, those arrested were released on cash bail.
Most of the vehicles targeted were public service vehicles that had tampered with their speed governors, compromising road safety.
NTSA's operation aims to enforce safety rules along the roads and bring to book those who flout them.
As per NTSA's data, eight men die in road accidents daily, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations.
