Embu Prison inmate allegedly commits suicide on Christmas Day, sparking investigations by the authorities.

Henry Ochieng, the prison officer in charge, revealed that the inmate, who was serving a life sentence for robbery with violence, hanged himself using his clothes.

The inmate, whose name was not disclosed, had been serving his sentence in another prison since 2013 before being transferred to Embu in 2016.

According to sources, the inmate had a disagreement with another convict before taking his life.

County police commander Daniel Rukunga confirmed that investigations into the incident are underway.

Elsewhere, a family in Imenti Central is counting their losses after their home was broken into and set on fire by thieves.

Domnic Kiogora, a dairy farmer, and his family were away for Christmas festivities when the incident occurred.

The thieves stole valuables, including electronics, utensils, clothing, and money, and set ablaze houses in the homestead and a zero-grazing unit with six dairy cows.

Some of the cows sustained burn wounds before the neighbors and fire brigade from the Meru Fire Station put out the fire at around 3am on Friday.

“This incident occurred from around 1am to 3am but my neighbors called me at about 5am to inform me of the bad news,” Kiogora said.
