On December 28, 2019, two prison wardens were arrested in Learata area along the Moyale-Isiolo highway for possessing and transporting 20 kilos of bhang in a Marsabit Prison vehicle.

According to Samburu police commander Samson Ogello, the bhang had been packed in four sacks, ready for supply to outlets in Samburu.

The two wardens were detained at Archers Post Police Station where they are being questioned ahead of their arraignment in court.

Investigations reveal that the bhang was being transported from neighbouring countries for sale in Samburu and its environs.

Mr Ogello also announced that patrols will be intensified along the highway to curb illegal businesses, especially drugs and illegal immigrants.

Police records show that about 40 illegal immigrants have been arrested along the route in the past four months, mainly from Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Egypt.
