Heavy rains have been causing chaos in Elburgon, Nakuru County, where a farmer's cabbages are rotting due to bad roads.
Mr. John Njuguna Kanyotu, a farmer from the area, had high hopes for a bumper harvest after investing in 7,000 seedlings from Longonot Farm Propagation in Naivasha five months ago at Sh10,500.
However, the diamond black moth pest destroyed the stem of the plants, forcing Mr. Kanyotu to spray them with Merit 150 SC pesticide and apply Green Sea fertiliser three times.
Despite his efforts, the cabbages are now rotting on the farm due to the heavy rains, which have made it impossible for him to harvest them.
Mr. Kanyotu is not alone in his struggles. Former Molo MP John Njenga says that farmers in the area are hardworking but are being let down by local leaders who have failed to ensure that roads and other infrastructure are repaired.
Mr. Kanyotu's situation is a stark reminder of the challenges faced by farmers in the region, where bad roads are causing huge losses to the agricultural sector.
