Published on December 27, 2019, Kenyans abroad are taking steps to utilize their skills and experience to contribute to the country's economic growth.

Kenya Diaspora Alliance (KDA) chairman Shem Ochuodho announced that 2,000 professionals have already uploaded their resumes to a skills database, with plans to increase this number to 10,000 next year.

This database will serve as a basis for pitching for various vacancies in the public service, with the aim of benefiting the country economically.

According to Dr. Ochuodho, diaspora Kenyans sent home Sh300 billion in the last one year, making them the second-highest foreign income earner after tea.

He emphasized that Kenyans working in various sectors across the world have expressed their wish to return home to share their skills, citing the appointment of Mwende Mwinzi as Kenya's ambassador nominee to South Korea as a welcome gesture for the diaspora community.

Dr. Ochuodho also highlighted the need for a fully-fledged diaspora department to help vet local companies seeking to offer Kenya abroad services and products, curbing incidents of briefcase companies conning the diaspora.

The Kenya Diaspora Investment Club is also working to facilitate business talks between foreign investors and local small and medium enterprises to attract more capital to Kenya.
