On December 27, 2019, a tragic incident occurred at the Embu GK Main Prison, where an inmate serving a life sentence took his own life.

Silas Kirimi Ntimwamba, the deceased, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Meru court for his involvement in a robbery with violence incident in Kangate Village.

Before being transferred to Embu GK Main Prison in 2016, Ntimwamba had been serving his sentence at Meru Prison since 2013.

According to sources at the prison, the inmate was on medication and had a history of bad temper when wronged.

It is alleged that a quarrel with another prisoner in the wee hours of the night may have driven Ntimwamba to take his own life.

The body of the deceased has been moved to the Embu Level Five Hospital mortuary as investigations continue.
