On December 27, 2019, Twitter user Ole Kiech shared a photo of Kevin Mureithi, a Kenyan man who was arrested in 2014 for cultivating and using marijuana, sparking a wave of questions and comments from netizens.

Mureithi, an agribusiness graduate, was arrested in Kiamwathi village in Nyeri county and his case went viral on social media in 2017 after a clip of him boldly telling police officers that there was nothing wrong with using the banned substance.

According to Ole Kiech, Mureithi was brutalized by police on the day of his arrest, but the footage was not shown by journalists.

Unfortunately, Mureithi has no social media handles and prefers to lay low, but his story has sparked a lot of interest and debate among Kenyans.

Yeah. He told me he was brutalised by the police in front of the camera but ktn decided not to show it. Anasema alienda hadi ofisi za standard kudai hizo vida haha?? — Ole Kiech? (@kimeli_A) December 27, 2019
