On December 27, 2019, a disturbing incident occurred in Ruiru, Kiambu County, where two prison officers were brutally attacked by boda boda riders.
According to a police report, the officers, identified as Joseph Maina Muriithi and George Gichoni Njuguna of the Industrial Area Remand Prison, had arrested and handcuffed a suspect. However, the suspect managed to escape and informed the boda boda riders, who then tracked down and assaulted the officers.
The two officers sustained multiple injuries and were initially treated at Ruiru sub-county hospital before being transferred to Thika Level 5 Hospital for further treatment.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
