On December 20, the Sonko Rescue Team, a non-profit organization founded by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, received a certificate of recognition for its outstanding community service and contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The team was commended for its role in alleviating poverty, providing water and medical emergency services to those in need, and conserving the environment.
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, who is also the founder and patron of the Sonko Rescue Team, thanked the organizers for the recognition and praised the hundreds of volunteers who have been working tirelessly to serve the less privileged members of society.
"I wish to commend the great team that has built the Sonko Rescue Team over the years for their dedication to serve humanity," Governor Sonko said. "I want to encourage other Kenyans to emulate this selfless team and find little ways to make a difference in their communities, especially during this festive season," he added.
The event was attended by representatives from the Government of Kenya, the NGO Council, the United Nations SDGs office, and the Kenya Platform on Climate Governance, among other civil society organizations.
"We are truly humbled by this award, as it goes a long way to recognize the important role we play in regulating the NGO sector," said Mr. Mutuma Nkanata, CEO of the NGO Coordination Board.
